Nanayam .. my Honest review

Nanayam , starring Prasanna , Sibiraj , S.P.B and some new heroine, is a home production of SPB . The trailers were slick and stylish and let the main theme out explicitly that the movie is about a bank robbery. There has been other attempts at Bank robbery starting with the early Bhagyaraj's Rudra , more recently, Vangee starring Abhaas and Jackie Shroff which didn't quite make it. Of course , there has been innumerable attempts at bank heists in hollywood most famous being Oceans 11, Italian job, Bank robbery etc.Nanayam does a decent job of the robbery and has a different ending compared to these other movies. Careful thought must have gone to the design of the Bank's security and I was really impressed at the things they came up with. I am not sure how much of this were inspired from other movies.

The movie remains true to its trailer, slick and stylish till the end. All the characters have been etched out well and have maintained a sense of realism. I have lamented over the years about the stupidity of the hero whenever a hero is taunted by a blackmail group . Here prasanna is shown to be a smart and cunning hero who makes sure he doesnt let the criminals go scot free. His honesty has been stressed and portrayed very well by the director.

SibiRaj shines in his negative role and does a neat job. However it laughable when he doesnt realize that his gun is loaded, given that he has laughed at Prasanna for the same reason. The scene where the heroine dances her way through the Laser Beams is hilarious as well. But, I guess we liked watching Cathrine Zeta Jones do it in Entrapment, so it must be interesting to watch the sequence in this movie. The Climax fight should be appreciated for keeping it real and practical. As it is between two important heroes , the Stunt master should be lauded for avoiding unbelievable stunts and destruction and making the fight as raw and realistic as possible.

SPB is a suprise package in the movie and he acts brilliantly as usual.

Though James Vasanthan has done a good work, songs were really unnecessary in the movie. I guess it has been included to satisfy the average tamil audience.

In conclusion, I would say the movie is very decent and will be liked by the upper class audience. I am not sure if it would be like by C center crowd as it may be a little sophisticated for them in terms of screenplay and the general treatment of the film. Nanayam.. a honest attempt. . :)
